Our philosophy

How we sail

Our vacation home approach

Vacation rentals aren't hotels, and we don't run ours like one. Here's what that means for your stay, and for your wallet.

  • Cleaning feeNone
  • Pet feeYes, for the deeper clean
  • Extra guestsYes, keeps big homes affordable off-season
  • DiscountsWeekly and monthly stays only
The big idea

Crew, not customer service

We see a vacation rental as a crew, not a customer-service counter. Everyone on this ship benefits when the place is well cared for. It keeps our costs down, in both money and time, and that's what lets us keep our prices fair for everyone.

So we look for guests who'll love and respect our homes as much as we do. And if we happen to see a family's place looking a little lived-in mid-stay? Let them be themselves. It only matters how they leave it.

Pricing

No cleaning fee

We don't charge a cleaning fee. The only extra charges are for pets and extra guests.

Pets mean a deeper clean. Charging for extra guests lets us price our bigger homes, the Crew Quarters and the Hibiscus House, lower in the off-season, when fewer large families are booking them.

Pricing

No discounts, either

That's the flip side. The only exceptions are weekly and monthly stays, because a longer stay means we reset the house less often. Think of a weekly discount as a negative cleaning fee.

We don't offer money off for fellow hosts, repeat guests, or even veterans. Everyone gets the same fair price from the start. We gave at the office.

Our returning guests do get rewarded, just not on the bill. Expect a few more of our little extras each time you come back, like gift cards, and access to amenities like the kayaks and the sailboat.

Fly-in ready

Leave the bulky stuff at home

Picture a family flying in, picking up a rental car and arriving late. You might need groceries, but you shouldn't have to buy condiments, spices or cleaning supplies you'll just leave behind. Every home has linens, bath and beach towels, a working grill, and cookware you can actually cook with.

Kristy has thought of countless extras too, from pack-and-plays to a spare dog leash. If you forgot it, she probably has one.

Before you arrive

Earning our five stars before you show up

That's our mantra. The winds and waves are too unpredictable for certainty, but it's our goal for every stay we accept.

You can help. Tell us a little about your trip: why you're coming, who's coming and their ages, and what you love. With just that basic information, we can save you time, and possibly money, by having the right things ready and pointing you to the spots that fit your crew.

Want the story behind all this? It starts with my parents in the 1980s.

Calm winds and following seas.
